Lori Young is the leader Commerce City deserves.
Empathy. Curiosity. Common Sense.
Real leadership for real people.
Lori Young is a longtime Commerce City resident, a mother of two, and a nonprofit leader with deep roots in Colorado and a clear-eyed commitment to community service. With more than 20 years of experience living, working, and serving in Commerce City, Lori is running for City Council to bring responsible leadership, practical solutions, and a genuine passion for people to City Hall.
Raised in the small town of Granby, Lori graduated from Middle Park High School and earned her degree in social work from Colorado State University. She began her career supporting women and families affected by domestic violence and later transitioned to hospice care—always drawn to helping people through life’s most difficult moments. Her career took a new direction when she entered the mortgage industry, gaining valuable financial experience, and later founded A Soft Place to Land, a nonprofit providing home furnishings for survivors rebuilding their lives.
Today, Lori serves as the Executive Director of the Adams 14 Education Foundation, where she helps fund teacher grants, student scholarships, and leads the Leadership Commerce City program—a 10-month civic engagement initiative. Her experience spans economic development, education, and public service, including launching food distribution programs and advocating for affordable housing and job training through Community Uplift Partnership.
Lori’s priorities—public safety, infrastructure, and affordable housing—reflect the values she’s heard from neighbors across Commerce City. She believes every resident deserves affordable, safe neighborhoods and a city council that listens and leads with integrity. Whether it’s tackling unsafe housing conditions in the south or advocating for more restaurants and amenities in the north, Lori is ready to do the hard work of bridging divides and delivering results.
As a woman of faith, a committed parent, and someone who has overcome adversity, Lori leads with empathy, curiosity, and common sense. Commerce City is a wonderful community and with strong leadership, we can be so much more!
